MAJOR CHARITY EVENT COMING TO CLEVELAND
On February 13, 2011, there will be a very special charity event happening here in Cleveland - – - Cycle For Survival. For anyone who has been touched by cancer, either personally or by a relative, friend, or acquaintance, this topic really hits home. The following will describe the event, with a heartwarming video included at the bottom.
BACKGROUND
The Cycle For Survival event was founded in 2007 by Jennifer Goodman Linn, a patient at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York, the leading hospital for rare cancer research. The event is an indoor team cycling event, that has raised over $5,000,000 for cancer research.
Every year since, thousands of people have gathered to cycle in New York, Chicago and other cities to ride against cancer. For the first time, Cleveland has been added as a satellite city thanks to the efforts of a local Solon resident, Stacy Starkoff, who is receiving treatment for a rare cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
CYCLE FOR SURVIVAL – CLEVELAND
The event will be held at the Solon Recreation Center on Sunday, February 13, 2011 from 1-5PM.
This will be a huge community event, emceed by Jen Toohey of Q104, and entertainment by Rock The House. There will be over 45 teams and 225 riders taking part in this giant fundraiser. There will also be other activities for those not riding, such as yoga and massage therapy, and of course, plenty of refreshments.
As of this writing, over $91,000 has been raised here in Cleveland, and we are looking to hit $100,000. With the help of our very generous community, this goal is possible.
A WORD FROM STACY:
“What makes Cycle for Survival special is that 100% of the money raised goes to fund the research. Unfortunately, Memorial Sloan-Kettering is one of the only hospitals that does research for certain cancers, many not so rare, so it is often the only hope that many cancer patients have. So far, 13 clinical trials have been developed thanks to the money raised and I know this event can make a huge difference in saving lives”.
If you want more information, or would like to donate, please visit the Cleveland Cycle For Survival site as every little bit helps. Also, please share this information so we can continue spreading the word about this very important charity event.
