Cycle For Survival Cleveland

MAJOR CHARITY EVENT COMING TO CLEVELAND

Cycle For Survival Cleveland

On February 13, 2011, there will be a very special charity event happening here in Cleveland – – – Cycle For Survival. For anyone who has been touched by cancer, either personally or by a relative, friend, or acquaintance, this topic really hits home.  The following will describe the event, with a heartwarming video included at the bottom.

BACKGROUND

The Cycle For Survival event was founded in 2007 by Jennifer Goodman Linn,  a patient at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York, the leading hospital for rare cancer research. The event is an indoor team cycling event, that has raised over $5,000,000 for cancer research.

Every year since, thousands of people have gathered to cycle in New York, Chicago and other cities to ride against cancer. For the first time, Cleveland has been added as a satellite city thanks to the efforts of a local Solon resident, Stacy Starkoff, who is receiving treatment for a rare cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

CYCLE FOR SURVIVAL – CLEVELAND

The event will be held at the Solon Recreation Center on Sunday, February 13, 2011 from 1-5PM.

This will be a huge community event, emceed by Jen Toohey of Q104, and entertainment by Rock The House.  There will be over 45 teams and 225 riders taking part in this giant fundraiser. There will also be other activities for those not riding, such as yoga and massage therapy, and of course, plenty of refreshments.

As of this writing, over $91,000 has been raised here in Cleveland, and we are looking to hit $100,000.  With the help of our very generous community, this goal is possible.

A WORD FROM STACY:

What makes Cycle for Survival special is that 100% of the money raised goes to fund the research.  Unfortunately, Memorial Sloan-Kettering is one of the only hospitals that does research for certain cancers, many not so rare, so it is often the only hope that many cancer patients have. So far, 13 clinical trials have been developed thanks to the money raised and I know this event can make a huge difference in saving lives”.

If you want more information, or would like to donate, please visit the Cleveland Cycle For Survival site as every little bit helps.  Also, please share this information so we can continue spreading the word about this very important charity event.

Great Big Home And Garden Expo Cleveland Ohio 2011

Hey Clevelanders, it’s that time again when the Cleveland I-X Center will be hosting the annual Home And Garden Expo. This year’s event takes place from February 5th-13th. There promises to be fun for everyone with some highlights to include:

Idea Home at Great Big Home And Garden Show Cleveland

The Idea Home – Here, you will be able to tour a state of the art 3350 square foot home that will impress you at every turn. In addition to its many interesting design features, there are some “green” elements as well such as a solar-powered air-conditioner and flat green roof. The entire home will be powered by a giant wind turbine.

The outdoor of this incredible home will be packed with features that are not to be missed,  including a rock wall, in-ground pool, and half-court basketball court.

Even though this is a $1,000,000 home, there will be some great ideas here that everyone should be able to use in their own home.

New Man Cave – This is where I will be spending most of my time. There will be a 1000 square foot basement that is every man’s dream.  Naturally, there will be a home theater room, plus, there is a game room, bar, and home office. There will also be a cool outdoor area complete with a fountain and fire pit.  For the woman who attend this year’s show and cannot seem to find their spouse, he’ll probably be hanging out at this ultimate man cave.

Celebrities – As always, there will be appearances and presentations given by many nationally recognized stars in the home improvement world. Here is just a glimpse of what you can expect:

Winter Driving Tips

winter driving tips

As evidenced by this week’s snowfall, winter is in full force.  So, with the help of our good friends at Metro Toyota, we are going to share some winter driving tips to help keep you and your family safer this winter.

1.     Have your car serviced to make sure it is prepared for winter driving.  This will include checking tire pressure, coolant, and oil.

2.     Carry specific items such as a snow scraper, flashlight, blankets,  jumper cables, and flares.  It may even be a good idea to have a shovel and some kitty litter in case you get stuck.  It is important to be prepared just in case of an emergency.

3.     If going on a long trip, call ahead to check on road conditions.  Most states have websites that will show current conditions, and even allow you to follow them on Twitter to get updates.

4.     Make sure all occupants are wearing a seat belt.

5.     Take frequent breaks, especially if it is snowing.

6.     Keep distractions to a minimum.  Yes, we realize that kids today have a wide variety of electronics at their disposal while in the car.  For the drivers sake, please keep the noise level down.  You can even tell your kids I said so.

7.     Carry a cell phone and a charger to make sure it doesn’t run out of power while on the road.

SOME ADDITIONAL TIPS YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW:

When many of us first learned how to drive, we were taught to pump our brakes if our car started to slide. Well, while we can’t speak for every make and model of car,  many newer vehicles are so technologically advanced, that they automatically do this for you.  Now, it may be better to press the brake and hold it down until your car automatically takes you out of the slide.  For further information, we recommend reading your car’s manual or speaking directly to your dealer.

Tire pressure is critical to a car’s safety and efficiency.  So, it may be recommended to replace the air in your tires with nitrogen as this is said to improve performance and safety.  The cost for this is very minimal and the results may be dramatic.

For more information, feel free to call our good friends at Metro Toyota at 13775 Brookpark Rd. , Cleveland OH , 44142,  Phone – ( 216 ) -267-7000.

Please follow these tips and drive safely this winter.

Welcome To Our Cleveland Real Estate Blog

Cleveland Real Estate Blog

Welcome To Our Cleveland Real Estate Blog.  To begin, this article is a little ill timed.  You see, we have been writing a blog for over 2 years now and never officially introduced it.  That’s kind of like opening a restaurant and then having a grand opening 2 years later.  At first, we wanted to work out the kinks. Then, we got so busy writing that it just slipped our mind.  It has actually become one of the most popular real estate blogs in Ohio and has been a great source of business for us. So, without further ado, welcome to our….

Oh wait.  Before we actually talk about our blog, I think we need to take a step back and explain what a blog is all about.  Initially, we assumed most people were familiar with blogs, and have used the term frequently in conversations. However,  I was at a social event recently and told someone that we have a very popular blog and invited her to check it out. To that, she replied, “what’s a blog?”

So, while it is certainly possible that most people are aware of the term, they may not know the particulars, because every blog is different.  There are personal blogs, which read like diaries, corporate blogs, photo blogs, etc… Heck, I didn’t even understand the entire concept until I actually started blogging, so I suppose we shouldn’t assume others will know anything about our blog, unless we explain it to them, or better yet, show them.

For the purposes of trying to explain the basics of our Cleveland Real Estate Blog, so people like my parents ( who are still trying to get a grasp on this “email” thing ) can understand, here is an easy way to think of it.  A blog is like a newspaper, with “articles” being added to it all the time, sometimes even daily.  The newspaper is called the “blog” and the articles are called “posts”. So, what you are now reading is a post on our blog.  If that’s not clear, than I don’t know what to tell you because even that explanation made sense to my parents.

The best thing about our blog is that we have total control over content. Yes that’s right, it’s basically a free for all, but we do understand the importance of great content, otherwise, no one would read it.  The thing that has made blogs so popular is because they are more personal and often offer deeper insight on a particular topic than the typical article someone may read. That’s what people can expect from this blog.  Our goal is for everyone to feel like their time spent reading was worthwhile, and that they actually learned something new.

WHAT DO WE WRITE ABOUT?

We give general information that would be of value to anyone, regardless of where they live. Since we are real estate agents, naturally we do write about real estate, but also discuss other topics as well.

On the real estate side, we give basic tips to home buyers and sellers, and sometimes even talk about complicated subjects such as the different styles of negotiating.  Also included are posts on our areas of specialty, luxury homes and home staging.  We also love sharing tips to our corporate and business contacts.  Here are some examples of what you will find here:
