LEGO® Store Arrives In Beachwood Ohio

LEGO store Beachwood Ohio

It’s here!!! The LEGO ® Store has arrived – and it is great fun for kids of all ages. The Grand Opening weekend found families waiting an hour and a half to get in to the store as well as another hour in line to purchase their finds.

Luckily our family passed on those crowds and waited just a few weeks to check it out for ourselves. It was well worth the wait. There was so much to see and do as well as lots of rare and new sets to buy.

Around the perimeter of the store is a continuous “ribbon” of LEGO® model displays with viewing holes at just the right height for kids’ eyes. The back of the store features a Pick a Brick wall where kids can fill a small bucket with shapes, sizes, and colors of their choosing. There are lots of other do it yourself sections like the build your own mini figure area as well as lots of areas to just play and explore.

Beachwood Place Mall has for too long been missing things to do for the younger crowd and the LEGO® Store is a welcome addition! We recommend you check it out for yourselves.

The LEGO® Store is located in the lower level of the Nordstrom wing of Beachwood Place Mall, 26300 Cedar Road, Beachwood, OH 44122.  The phone number is  (216) 378-2060.  Store Hours are Monday – Saturday: 10am-9pm and Sunday: Noon -6pm.

Spring Break Staycation Guide – Cleveland Ohio

Things to do during your Cleveland staycation

While many folks are packing their bags and heading south for spring break, many of us will be stuck at home.  That doesn’t mean that the kids still can’t have a great time.  All you need is a positive attitude and a few simple ideas to make it fun and exciting for the kids.

Seeing that the weather is not going to cooperate, we are focusing on indoor activities.  Here are a few ideas to help make this a memorable week:

1.     Museums –  We have a ton of great museums here in town.  The Great Lakes Science Center has a cool “Facing Mars” exhibit that my daughter has been begging to see.  The Natural History Museum is always fun and even if it’s too cold for the zoo, don’t forget about the Rainforest.

2.       Try A One Tank Trip – If you are feeling adventurous and have the time, take a day trip to one of many attractions that are nearby. There are a lot of cool things to do that are only 1-2 hours away like: COSI in Columbus, Kalahari Water Park, and there are some fun things to do in Pittsburgh as well.  You always have the option of staying overnight in a new city ( which the kids sometimes really love ) or simply make it a pure day trip.

3.     Movies –  While certainly not an original idea, there are always appropriate kids movies out this time of year. “Diary of a Whimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules”  comes out March 25th and “Hop” is out April 1st.

4.     IX Indoor Amusement Park – This is always a kid favorite and starts on March 30th.

5.     Kids Choice – While parents often try to come up with ideas, sometimes it’s best to simply ask them to list some things they want to do.  You’d be surprised what they come up with, and sometimes it’s not overly expensive.  They may enjoy an afternoon of bowling or roller skating, or maybe even a play date with a special classmate will make them happy.

Bonus – For a special treat, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Lake Erie Monsters will be in town during spring break.  Great seats can usually be had for cheap during this time of year as many ticket holders will be away and looking to dump their seats.

SUMMARY

The most important thing about staying at home for vacation is to be organized.  We try to plan in advance at least 1 activity a day, even if it’s something minor, just to get the kids moving and out of the house.

We also identify other families who will be home all week and try to partner up with them.  This is especially helpful is you’re stuck working all week as you may be able to pawn your kids off on someone who is not ( and I don’t mean this in a bad way ).  I know from experience that having other kids around is a great distraction for my kids and keeps them from killing each other.

So whatever you decide to do while home during spring break, remember one thing:  you’re kids are only young once, so try to have some fun with them.  With a good attitude and a little bit of effort, you can make this a memorable week for them and you as well.

A Night Out In Solon Ohio – Where To Go?

A Night Out In Solon Ohio – Where To Go?

We work with a lot of people relocating to Solon and are constantly asked about the local shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. Recently, a young couple came in for a weekend without their kids to look for a home and had Saturday night free to spend around town. They asked us what our ideal night on the town would be, but limited it to staying within Solon ( no surrounding areas ).  Knowing everyone has different ideas of fun, we came up with some great options for a “perfect night out” here in Solon, OH

Solon OH restaurants

Option for Fun #1

We’d start with dinner at Jimmy Daddona’s then walk just across the parking lot to the Solon Cinemas to take in the hottest new movie.  Don’t fill up on movie theater junk food though as you’ll want to end the night at Mitchell’s Ice Cream.  In our opinion, any night that ends at Mitchell’s is perfect as we’re addicted to their latest yogurt – peanut butter with chocolate covered pretzels – Mmm!

Option for Fun #2

Bowling at Solon Freeway Lanes. They offer family Cosmic Bowling on Fridays and a more grown up version on Saturday nights.  They offer a full menu  of “bar food”  and pizza and offer a full bar and pool as well.  A fun night all by itself.

Mitchells Ice Cream Solon

Option for Fun #3

Grab an early bite at Station 43  and then head over to see a wonderful production at out very own Solon Center For the Arts.  Check the calendar for shows, wine tastings, art exhibits and more.  End the night with coffee and something sweet at Caribou Coffee.

Option for Fun #4

Watch your favorite sports team – your pick in Solon – Panini’s or The Rusty Bucket  – both with great food and lots of big screen TVs. After the game, we still recommend going across the street to Mitchell’s Ice Cream.

Option for Fun #5

Be entertained while you eat at Akira Hibachi.  The chefs will dazzle you and make you laugh while preparing your choice of veggies, seafood, and meats on the huge cook top.  Akira offers other dining options as well including sushi.  If you are just looking for a great sushi bar, our personal favorite is Pacific East which recently opened a location in Solon.

A Healthy Option

While many of the above restaurants offer healthy food items, we do understand that some folks keep a very strict diet. There are some great options for those who are vegetarians, vegans, or just like to eat really healthy. Mustard Seed Market and Cafe offers a little of everything, from prepared foods, to smoothies, and even a salad bar. Organic Energy Restaurant and Power Juice Cafe is also a good choice, and open until 8PM on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Solon Freeway Lanes – Solon OH

Solon Freeway Lanes – Solon OH

Solon Freeway Lanes

Every once in a while, we choose to feature a local business, and today’s spotlight will go to one of our favorite hotspots, Solon Freeway Lanes, voted Best Bowling Alley by Cleveland Magazine.  While Freeway Lanes does have multiple locations throughout the Cleveland area, our focus will be on the one right here in the heart of Solon.

After completing a major renovation a few years ago, Solon Freeway Lanes has quickly become the one-stop shop for everything entertainment in Solon and surrounding suburbs. For starters, Freeway Lanes has state-of-the art bowling lanes, making it one of the most popular places to bowl on the entire east side. It is also a great place to have a birthday party, with party packages that are deemed very affordable by local parents. You can never go wrong with bowling and pizza. For the more serious bowlers, they offer a variety of Men’s, Woman’s, Mixed,Bowling at Solon Freeway Lanes Senior and Junior leagues as well.

Solon Freeway Lanes also offers a ton of special events. One of the most popular events is cosmic bowling. In fact, our kids practically beg us to go every week. It is held on Friday and Saturday nights and is offered in 2 hours shifts, with the earlier shifts being geared more toward families and young children with teens and young adults taking over during the later shifts. Cosmic bowling is a ton of fun and resembles a dance club, complete with lighting, a DJ, fog machine, and drop down screens that play videos.

While Freeway Lanes is known for bowling, there is a lot more to do there than bowl. The lounge area offers a full menu of food, a full bar complete with an outdoor patio, pool tables, and a game room.  There is also a monthly list of different activities including Karaoke.

Solon Freeway Lanes is perfect for corporate events and special occasions such as Bar Mitzvahs, Anniversaries and graduation parties.

We were personally at a wedding party there recently and it was a ton of fun. We had our own personal area to bowl and then a private room where we were served a fantastic catered gourmet meal ( and we are very picky eaters!). It was a really fun party that definitely stood out compared to all the traditional stuffy events we’ve attended over the years.

So, if you are looking for a fun activity or to host a large event, think about supporting locally owned and operated Solon Freeway Lanes
